El Viejo means 'the old man' in Spanish, and it's a tribute to the old man from Oaxaca that inspired the founders to strive to bring unity and collaboration to the world of mezcal in order to preserve it, and to name the brand Unión to serve that purpose. Mezcal Unión El Viejo is a blend of Espadín and Wild Tobalá agaves which have been matured for 8 to 14 years. This joven (un-aged) mezcal has robust flavor notes that make it ideal to enjoy neat or as the base for spirit-forward cocktails. Mezcal Unión collaborates with several communities across different villages in Oaxaca, Mexico, empowering maestros mezcaleros and agave farmers to become entrepeneurs of their own businesses. • Includes one 750 mL bottle of Mezcal Unión El Viejo. • Sweet, floral, dry, smoky, herbal (mint, pine), butter, stone and new woods. • Please enjoy responsibly.

Description

An artisanal handcrafted and unaged mezcal blend of agave Espadín and the wild agave Tobalá. Produced and bottled in Oaxaca, Mexico. Slightly smoky, flavours and aromas of butter, mint, cinnamon, mango, herbs and minerals.

We are replanting both species used. An agave takes time to grow, but our goal is to be able to exclusive use agaves we replanted - as soon as nature allows it. We use sustainable farming practices to actively avoid soil erosion.

Mezcal UNIÓN's goal is to preserve traditional distilling craft and empower locals to grow socioeconomically by uniting artisanal distilleries and agave farmers.

Sombra Reposé is a first-of-its-kind reposado made with Sombra’s award-winning Espadin mezcal aged in Bordeaux Wine Barrels from the renowned Chateau Leoville Poyferre in France. This process produces a refined spirit with a delightful rose-colored hue, hence the name Reposé (French for rested, similar to the Spanish reposado).
Sombra is one of the few mezcal brands that owns & operates its own palenque – ensuring consistency and quality in every bottle. Additionally, Sombra is a leader in sustainability. Sombra employs eco-friendly and sustainable production methods including fair-trade agave sourcing, solar panels, a mechanical tahona (no donkeys), rainwater collection, sustainably sourced firewood and the Sombra Adobe Brick Project.
