The Rob Roy, a Scotch variation on the Manhattan, takes its name from the infamous Scottish rebel Rob Roy MacGregor. Use Johnnie Walker as the base whisky, add a touch of sweet vermouth and aromatic bitters, then stir the ingredients over ice, strain, and serve neat with a brandied cherry or orange peel. The result is balanced, slightly smoky, and rich — it’s a cocktail that should never play second fiddle to its more famous cousin.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 oz. Johnnie Walker Black Label 
  • 1 oz. Sweet Vermouth 
  • 2 dashes Aromatic Bitters 
  • Orange Peel Twist 
  • Brandied Cherry Garnish

Directions

  1. Combine all ingredients in a mixing glass or cocktail shaker with ice.  
  2. Stir and strain into a coupe glass and twist a piece of orange peel over the glass to release the aromatic oils. 
  3. Garnish with a brandied cherry.
