What is keto?

The ketogenic diet is a low-carb, high-fat diet which focuses on consuming a high amount of fat and a moderate amount of quality protein. These days, “keto” is often used to refer to foods (or beverages) that mirror this low-carb, high-fat ratio.

Since many diets focus on low carbs, we have a selection of cocktails that are health-conscious so you can make informed decisions based on your dietary needs.

What makes it a margarita?

The classic margarita is composed of tequila, lime juice and an orange liqueur. But you’ll find plenty of variations here on The Bar—with the popularity of margaritas, it’s no surprise cocktail lovers have come up with plenty of ways to customize this crowd pleaser.

Margaritas are usually made with blanco tequila, but the avoketo margarita features reposado. Blanco has a sweet, fruity flavor, while reposado tends more toward vanilla and caramel notes. Either way, the agave tequila flavor is unmistakable.

Margarita Next To Salt Lime And Syrup

What does the avocado keto margarita taste like?

Salty, lime-y, almost savory—this avocado margarita delivers a unique flavor profile.

Creamy

Avocado is creamy, smooth and provides a solid base.

Salty & spicy

Have you ever had avocado with a bit of salt? Salt brings out the flavors of this drink in a delightful way, as well as providing the salty taste of a traditional margarita.

If you’ve ever tried spicy guacamole or sliced avocado on a taco, you know avocado and heat blend together perfectly, with cool avocado balancing spicy flavors. That’s why this drink includes a spicy salt rim.

Cool

Crushed ice as an ingredient that contributes to flavor? That’s right. You may even feel like you’re sipping a delicious smoothie, cool and refreshing-tasting.

Tangy

Fresh lime juice provides the signature lime flavor of margaritas.

Use top-shelf tequila

It offers the tequila/agave flavor you expect from a margarita, with a hint of vanilla and caramel. A high-quality reposado like Don Julio Reposado or Casamigos Reposado elevates the cocktail.

Variations to customize your avocado keto margarita

Want to get creative? Try out some of our variations.

Make it spicy
We suggested adding a spicy salt rim to your glass. If you want more, add a pinch of spicy salt to your blender instead of regular salt. The spice level is up to you, with how much or how little you use, as well as what type of spicy salt you use.

If you don’t want it spicy
We get it, you aren’t a spice person. No worries. Simply rim your glass with a classic lime and salt.

Forget keto, make it sweet
Do you want the avocado and the sweetness? Try adding 0.5 oz. of agave nectar, and/or add 0.5 oz. to 1 oz. of orange liqueur for a more classic orange flavor mixed in.

Switch up the spirits
No reposado? You can also use blanco tequila. Blanco tequila is distilled and bottled without aging for a sweet, fruity flavor and tends to have the strongest agave taste compared to other types of tequila. It’s the most common choice for margaritas, so you won’t go wrong using it in this recipe. Check out a selection of our high-quality blanco tequilas if you need assistance deciding what kind to use.
