Classic Paloma

A favorite in Mexico, the paloma is a light, effervescent and tangy drink, perfect to show off a tequila. Though there are variations, two elements are essential in any paloma: top-shelf tequila and grapefruit. Read on to find out how to make your own classic paloma.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 oz. Don Julio Blanco
  • 1 oz. Fresh Grapefruit Juice
  • 0.75 oz. Fresh Lime Juice
  • 0.75 oz. Sugar Syrup
  • Soda Water to top
  • Grapefruit Wedge to garnish

Directions

  1. Combine tequila, grapefruit juice, simple syrup and lime juice in a cocktail shaker with ice.
  2. Shake and strain into a highball or Collins glass with ice.
  3. Top with club soda and garnish with a lime wedge or grapefruit wheel.

Simple Syrup

Ingredients

  • 8 oz. Granulated Sugar
  • 8 oz. Water

Directions

  1. In a medium size pot, heat the sugar and water for 15-20 minutes on a low simmer until the sugar is dissolved, stirring occasionally to prevent caking.
  2. Once sugar is dissolved, remove from heat.
  3. Pour into a container for storage, and label, date and refrigerate for later use. Good for 3 months. Yields 14 oz. of simple syrup.
